Avnet employees kick off season-long support campaign with a donation of more than 22,816 meals for Arizona's hungry

TASTE OF THE NFL (TNFL), a 501c3 organization, today announced that Phoenix-based Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), a global electronic components and enterprise IT solutions distributor, has signed on as the organization’s first Arizona Hunger Champion, an exclusive team of four community sponsor-partners committed to TNFL’s goal of hunger relief in America.

As an Arizona Hunger Champion, Avnet and its employees and partners have committed to help fight hunger in Arizona as well as other communities where they do business. To celebrate the new partnership and kick off internal programs, Avnet’s Arizona-based employees donated 2,887 pounds of food, along with cash donations of $2,847 as part of a recent employee event. This donation will be delivered to St. Mary’s Food Bank and provide approximately 22,816 meals to feed Arizona’s hungry.

Avnet’s season-long campaign includes engaging employees in a variety of activities including food drives and fundraising efforts in the fight against hunger in their own communities.

Andrew Zimmern has joined TNFL as this year’s national culinary host for its Party with a Purpose® to assist in rallying the country’s top chefs to raise awareness and money. Zimmern, the creator, host and co-executive producer of Travel Channel’s hit series, Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern, will lead the charge along side national celebrity spokesperson, Alyssa Milano.

This year’s star-studded Party with a Purpose® fundraising event, held on the eve of Super Bowl XLIX on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015 at WestWorld in Scottsdale, Ariz., brings together exceptional cuisine, prominent chefs from around the country, including Arizona Cardinals Celebrity Chef Beau MacMillan of The Sanctuary along with NFL players, coaches, legends and more, all to support the fight against hunger. The Kick Hunger Challenge is an online-only fundraising campaign spearheaded by Taste of the NFL, (www.TasteoftheNFL.com). This friendly “competition” pits fans from all 32 NFL teams against each other to raise money for food banks in NFL communities nationwide.
