Seahawks and Patriots - Winners on and off the Field!

Not only did the Patriots and Seahawks battle one another in Super Bowl XLIX, but they also took the number one and two spots in the Kick Hunger Challenge – Taste of the NFL’s online fundraising competition that raises money for each of the food banks in NFL cities.

While the Patriots took home Super Bowl rings, it was the Seahawks who won the Kick Hunger Challenge—raising an astounding $127,000 for the Food Lifeline food bank in their community (an additional $10,000 prize was awarded the Seahawks and Food Lifeline for placing first in the competition). The Patriots raised just shy of $60,000.

The Seattle Seahawks duo of Chef John Howie (Seastar Restaurnt and Raw Bar) and Craig Terrill, former Seahawk (shown to the right) won the Kick Hunger Challenge for the third year in a row. Their efforts involved raffling off a Russell Wilson autographed jersey and holding a chili cook-off fundraiser. The money they raised will create 686,720 new meals to hungry people in Western Washington.

The New England Patriots team is led by Chef Steve DiFillipo of Davio’s and former Patriot, Matt Light (show to the left). While Chef DiFillipo was disappointed to lose to Chef Howie and the Seahawks again, he noted that if losing means providing $60,000 (that's in excess of 450,000 meals!) to the Greater Boston Food Bank, “That’s a loss that I can handle.”

Taste of the NFL’s Kick Hunger Challenge has so far raised $380,542. The competition ends on Friday, February 13th.

Little Big Town, presented by American Family Insurance, will join the country's top chefs and the NFL's greatest players at the Party with a Purpose® in an effort to raise money in support of food banks throughout the United States.

This year’s star-studded fundraising event brings together exceptional cuisine, prominent chefs from around the country, NFL players, coaches, legends and celebrities, all to support the fight against hunger.

The three-time reigning Country Music Association’s Vocal Group of the Year and Academy of Country Music’s Vocal Group of the Year recently completed their critically acclaimed sixth studio album Pain Killer, which features No. 1 hit “Day Drinking” as well as their newly released single, “Girl Crush.” In addition to their passion for music, Little Big Town is also avid “foodies” with an appetite for helping those in need. Their performance at the Party with a Purpose® underscores their commitment to giving back to the community and cause-related efforts as they help Taste of the NFL raise awareness and funds for hunger relief.

“It’s a privilege to perform at this year’s Taste of the NFL event and to help raise funds and awareness for hunger relief,” said Band Member Karen Fairchild. “Working together to support the fight against hunger is something that we are very passionate about. We are excited to help support local food banks and are eager to defeat hunger throughout the U.S.”

Taste of the NFL Bids Farewell to Earl Morrall

Earl Morrall, 18-year Taste of the NFL participant, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2014. He was 79.

Although Morrall played on numerous teams during his 3-decade NFL career, he is most famous for his spot on the 1972 undefeated Miami Dolphins team. Filling in for the injured Bob Griese in game 5, Morrall went on to lead the Dolphins to 11 straight wins -- the only undefeated team in NFL history.

Morrall joined the Taste of the NFL and attended the "Party with a Purpose®" for 18 years straight, representing both the Indianapolis Colts and the Miami Dolphins "Perfect Season". According to Taste of the NFL founder, Wayne Kostroski, "Every fan at our party wanted to meet the famous Earl Morrall. He is an irreplaceable member of our team who will never be forgotten."

Taste of the NFL honored Morrall in February of 2013. Please watch this video:
